How does dermaplaning work?
During the treatment your provider uses a specialized scalpel to gently scrape away the outermost layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hairs, often referred to as “peach fuzz.”
This process unveils fresh, radiant skin and acts as a primer for enhanced product absorption, making it an excellent pre-treatment for Hydrafacials, DiamondGlow, chemical peels and traditional spa facials.
Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?
This is a very common question! The answer is NO, but understandably people think it is the same as they both involve a blade or sharp tool to remove surface level hair.
The main differences between dermaplaning and shaving include:
- Purpose: Dermaplaning has a main purpose of exfoliation and rejuvenating the skin. Shaving is done to remove visible hair.
- Depth: Dermaplaning is performed to exfoliate the skin’s surface, while shaving targets the hair shafts.
- Tool: In dermaplaning, a specifically designed scalpel or blade is used by a trained professional. In contrast, shaving typically involves the use of a razor designed for removing hair from the body.
- Technique: Dermaplaning is a precise technique performed by our trained providers where gentle, feathering strokes are done to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and fine facial hairs (vellus hairs). Shaving typically involves more aggressive strokes to remove visible hair.
- Results: Dermaplaning leaves the skin with a smoother texture and a bright, radiant complexion due to the removal of dead skin cells. Shaving primarily results in hair removal and does not provide the same level of exfoliation.
