Weight Loss Treatments: What To Know

What Are Medical Weight Loss Treatments?

Medical weight loss treatments are designed to effectively address long-term weight loss goals and management. The process involves a weekly injection that has been proven to reduce appetite.

When combined with a wholesome diet and a healthy, more active lifestyle, these treatments have shown great potential in promoting sustainable weight loss. We are pleased to provide medical weight loss treatments at both our Ankeny and West Des Moines locations.

These once-weekly injectable peptide medications are key elements in known FDA-approved brands that treat diabetes, obesity and excess weight.

How Do Medical Weight Loss Treatments Work?

Prescription medical weight loss options involve peptide receptor agonists that effectively regulate glucose levels, reduce appetite, and result in promoting weight loss.

Using these treatments in conjunction with modifying behavior to optimal activity and diet has provided guests with a path to a healthier weight and overall well-being.

And understand this: Differences in GLP Receptor Medications

This is one of our most frequently asked questions. In the prescription medication industry, there are single glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist options (semaglutide) and dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist options that are marketed for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and weight management solutions.

Peptides and Their Effectiveness

SINGLE & DUAL PEPTIDES: Both dual glucose dependent peptides and single semaglutide medications are currently known for and utilized for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity. Belonging to the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist class of drugs, they share certain similarities but also exhibit notable differences.

MECHANISM OF ACTION: A dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist activates both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, and as a result it effectively regulates glucose levels, reduces appetite and promotes weight loss.

In contrast, a singular (semaglutide) is a selective GLP-1 (singular) receptor agonist that primarily targets and activates the GLP-1 receptor. This mechanism improves glycemic control and has the potential for weight loss.

EFFECTIVNESS – ONE PERFORMS BETTER: Clinical trials have shown that both single & dual peptide receptor agonists have significant potential for weight loss. However, DUAL options have exhibited CLINICALLY a more pronounced effect on weight reduction when compared to singular options. Studies suggest that dual options may have a greater impact on reducing weight in individuals with obesity or overweight, surpassing the effects of semaglutide.

As a practice we value the best interest of our guests and offer DUAL peptide medication as a medical weight loss option as we want guests who make this investment to get the best performing option available.

How Much Do Medical Weight Loss Treatments Cost?

The Medical Weight Loss Treatment Program at Coachlight and Des Moines Plastic Surgery is an initial eight-week dosed program.  Standard pricing for these treatments is $899/month and a first-time guest must commit to the initial two-month (8-week) dosing program and full payment for the two-month supply at their first visit. After completing the 8 weeks, a guest may continue treatments on a month-to-month scenario at $899/month.

Do You Change Pricing Based On Dose?

We offer these treatments at the CLINICALLY PROVEN and recommended dosing guides, including up to 15mg and our pricing DOES NOT CHANGE based on your monthly dosage.

Before, During, and After

Understanding Medical Weight Loss Treatments At Coachlight and Des Moines Plastic Surgery – What Is The Process?

What To Expect Before a Treatment: Phone Consultation

Guests interested in injectable medical weight loss treatments in the greater Des Moines area should complete an initial complimentary phone consultation to determine suitability as a candidate for the treatment.

During the consultation, we will review your medical history and discuss the treatment, expectations, and potential side effects in detail. If deemed a suitable candidate, an appointment for the first dose can be scheduled.

What To Expect During a Treatment: First Visit and 8-Week Initial Dosing

During the initial appointment and administration, you will undergo weight measurement, body measurements, lifestyle practices review, and a discussion of expectations while receiving medical weight loss treatments. The first dose will be administered and a provider will go over and teach you how to administer additional once-a-week doses. Our medical weight loss program consists of a series of eight once-a-week treatments.

The convenience lies in the fact that after the first dose, the subsequent seven doses can be taken home and self-administered weekly. Upon completing the final (eighth) dose, patients will return for a follow-up appointment at our facility to evaluate weight loss outcomes and determine the subsequent course of action, including the continuation of additional treatments. We will also assess and make appropriate dosage adjustments as necessary.

What To Expect After a Treatment: Maintenance and Continued Objectives

Upon completing the initial 8-week treatment phase, we will evaluate your progress and long-term weight loss goals. If you aim to maintain your current weight, we will recommend continuing treatments at a maintenance dosage. The ultimate goal will be to gradually reduce the dose until you no longer require or desire weekly treatments. Alternatively, if you wish to achieve further weight loss, we will create a continued weekly dosage plan and make appropriate recommendations.

It’s important to note that clinical studies have shown weight loss in subjects who received medications for an average period of 3 to 6 months. Establishing lasting, healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors through dietary adjustments and physical activity is crucial for sustainable long-term weight loss and weight health. Your commitment to these changes will contribute to maintaining the weight loss achieved while using medical weight loss treatments.

More Frequently Asked Questions

These peptide medications works by targeting receptors in the brain that regulate food intake, resulting in increased feelings of satiety after meals.

In clinical trials, patients treated with dual glucose dependent peptides reported significant reductions in hunger and cravings, leading to improved dietary choices and decreased overall caloric intake. Moreover, the drug has been shown to have a positive effect on blood sugar levels and cardiovascular health, making it a promising option for those struggling with both diabetes and obesity.

These medical weight loss treatments are once-weekly administered medications that are provided in pre-filled syringes. To prevent gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea and vomiting, which are more likely at higher doses, the dosage should be gradually titrated. It is crucial to begin with a low dose and gradually increase it over several weeks.

The duration of a medical weight loss treatment may vary based on starting weight, weight loss goals, and overall health. The most suitable treatment plan will be customized for each individual, potentially involving different dosages and treatment lengths.

In clinical trials, dual glucose dependent peptide medications have demonstrated impressive weight loss results for participants within 16 weeks. This exciting news brings hope to individuals who have struggled to lose weight for months or even years. Although the outcomes may vary based on factors like diet and exercise habits, dual glucose dependent peptide medications have the potential to revolutionize weight loss efforts, providing a fast and efficient method for shedding pounds.

To maintain long-term weight loss results while utilizing treatments, it is critical to establish healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors through diet and physical activity. Your accountability to these changes will contribute to sustaining the weight loss.

Medical weight loss treatments can provide synergistic anti-obesity effects by reducing appetite and energy intake while improving metabolic function. It increases energy expenditure through the activation of receptors that boost metabolic rate, resulting in increased calorie burn and gradual weight loss.

Possible side effects of this medication may include swelling, redness, and itching at the injection site. It may also cause tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, or constipation. It is important to note that serious side effects are rare among most individuals who use this medication.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved brand name medical weight loss injections for the chronic weight management of adults with obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or greater) or overweight (body mass index of 27 kg/m2 or greater) who have at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol). It is to be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

While dual glucose dependent peptide medications has shown promising results in clinical trials, experts emphasize the importance of lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, alongside the use of medical weight loss options. Ultimately, the decision of whether to use these options as a standalone treatment or in combination with other interventions will depend on individual needs and circumstances.

There are no specific dietary restrictions while taking medical weight loss medications. However, it is advisable to follow a balanced diet that includes nutrient-dense foods. Unlike appetite suppressants that work by reducing the desire to eat, medical weight loss options regulate blood sugar levels to help control hunger.

Tirzepatide has recently shown potential in enhancing metabolic parameters for weight loss. Clinical trials reveal significant reductions in body weight and improved blood sugar regulation for Type 2 diabetes patients. Specifically, tirzepatide reduces HbA1c levels, serving as a marker for long-term blood sugar control. Additionally, it improves lipid profiles and blood pressure, further contributing to metabolic health.

The ultimate objective of medical weight loss treatments in West Des Moines and Ankeny for weight loss is to help you reach your desired healthy goal weight initially. Subsequently, with maintenance monitoring and management, the dosage will gradually decrease to eventually ‘wean’ you off the treatment. Your commitment to a healthy diet and active lifestyle will directly impact your ability to sustain long-term weight loss.

Regarding “Ozempic face,” it’s a term colloquially used to describe the weight loss side effect associated with semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic. Obviously this is a more “broad” application as the same “side effect” could occur with tirzepatide. Weight loss can sometimes lead to a noticeable reduction in facial fat, resulting in a more defined or gaunt appearance.

As for whether someone on medical weight loss treatments could experience similar changes in facial appearance due to weight loss, it’s theoretically possible. Weight loss, especially significant and rapid weight loss, can affect the distribution of fat in the body, including the face. However, it’s essential to note that individual responses to medications can vary widely, and not everyone will experience the same side effects or changes in appearance.

If you’re concerned about potential changes in your facial appearance while taking weight loss medications, it’s best to discuss your concerns with your provider. Our medical aesthetic professionals can recommend collagen treatments like Sculptra Aesthetic or dermal filler treatments as relevant.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that uses controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells, primarily for body contouring purposes. EMSCULPT, on the other hand, is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to induce muscle contractions, primarily for muscle toning and strengthening.

If you’re considering undergoing treatments like CoolSculpting or EMSCULPT while being on tirzepatide, you can schedule a complimentary consultation first to determine if you’re a good candidate for these types of treatments. There’s no specific contraindication that prohibits undergoing these procedures concurrently with tirzepatide, and many guests that have been on our tirzepatide treatments have benefited from doing CoolSculpting and EMSCULPT treatments as recommended by their provider on what they’re an ideal candidate for.
