The Lip Filler Process

A lip filler procedure is designed to be comfortable and efficient. A topical numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort during the procedure. During your treatment your injector carefully administers the filler into targeted areas of your lips. Post-procedure instructions are provided to promote optimal healing and results. As our skin loses collagen, elasticity, and volume with age, so do our lips. This causes sagging, wrinkles, and a lack of definition.

Juvéderm Ultra, Juvéderm Volbella, and Restylane Kysse are composed of synthetic hyaluronic acid. This substance bonds with water molecules to effectively create a new volume in the skin. This restores an appealing pout to the lips and smooths away wrinkles.

Unlike surgery, lip fillers are minimally invasive. This means that patients can avoid the scalpels, incisions, and implants associated with surgical lip augmentation.

It’s important to remember that some people can be allergic to the ingredients used in lip fillers. Because of this, when you come to us to inquire about our lip fillers, we sit down with you for a consultation to ensure that the treatment is safe for you.

During this consultation in our Des Moines office, we ask you about your aesthetic goals and your complete medical history, including any allergies you may have. We inform you about every step of the lip filler process.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend you don’t undergo lip filler treatment. Instead, we will provide an alternate timeline for your procedure so it will be safe for you and your baby.

Lip filler treatment sessions in Coachlight are very simple and convenient. They typically do not last longer than an hour. During a session, the chosen filler product is injected into several areas for even results. Lip fillers contain a pain-numbing local anesthetic called lidocaine, which makes their application quite comfortable.

There is no downtime needed with this treatment, so you can return to work and your everyday schedule immediately. A small amount of swelling and bruising may be present for a time but will fade shortly.

We will offer instructions regarding a specific diet, exercise plan, and lifestyle for a week or two, which will limit the strain on your lip fillers. Following these directions will help you maintain optimal results.

Another treatment option that we offer for lip augmentation is called a “lip flip.” Rather than using a lip filler, this lip procedure features injections of Botox, a popular neuromodulator.

During a lip flip, Botox is injected into the Cupid’s bow area of the upper lip, along with the corners of the upper lip. This relaxes the muscles, which allows more of the upper lip to show, creating more volume. It can also address a gummy smile. The procedure only takes up to 20 minutes to perform.

The results of lip flip injections last for eight to twelve weeks; after this time, patients can return for maintenance treatments.

A lip “pop” is a frequently requested treatment at Coachlight for patients wanting a very subtle enhancement of their lips. A “Lip Pop” uses approximately 1/2 a syringe (.55 ml) of filler to help improve a patient’s overall shape, giving it a hydrated appearance and subtle volume. Your provider will recommend the best option based on your overall aesthetic goals.

Lip filler treatments start at $399 for half-syringe (.55ml) options and $650 for full-syringe options. Your provider will make the appropriate product recommendation for your treatment based on your aesthetic goals. The cost of filler varies based on the filler product brand chosen and the number of syringes required to achieve the result you are seeking.
